April 2020

The Coronavirus pandemic dominates the news and everything we do at home and it seems insensitive to write a blog at a time when so many people are becoming ill and losing their lives to this dreadful disease. It feels extremely weird to go shopping wearing gloves and a mask and so much praise must go to the wonderful hospital staff, doctors and nurses all around the world for their dedicated work under unbelievable pressure.

During this period, it is heartening to hear from Maxine (who is self-isolating with Alfie) that Pam Norris is calling her every day to check on her and Anita is doing some shopping and generally keeping in contact with her. I´m sure that many other members are helping out and keeping in contact with vulnerable friends and relatives who are on their own at this difficult time.

Our thanks must go to the greenkeeping staff who are still working on our course, albeit on reduced hours. Thanks also to the owners and our General Manager, Mike Munden, for agreeing to freeze memberships from 15th March until the course re-opens. Monty has been updating me with some news about the course and it appears that a lot of essential maintenance is being completed during this time, so, looking briefly on the bright side, the course should be in good condition when we eventually return to normal life.

As you know a lot of money has been invested by the owners recently on acquiring a new buggy fleet and the general consensus is that they are much more comfortable and certainly much smarter than the old buggies. Each buggy comes complete with two sand bottles and a ball/club washer.

It remains to be seen when the course, restaurant and bar will open again. I presume that the club will share information in relation to ´Social Distancing´ to protect everyone who comes to the course, members and guests alike – I know that members will adhere to these rules.

To finish on a positive, I´m sure that it won´t be long until we are all out enjoying our usual sunny weather on the superb terrace overlooking our course and the Mediterranean congratulating or consoling each other on our scores and having a beer or two to unwind.

To all our members both here in Spain and in their home countries, stay positive and stay safe. See you all soon.
