the legend made true
Robert Naify, along with a group of partners, had a vision in the 1980s to build an exclusive members club on terrains where there was originally an olive tree plantation, located just next to the Marbella town center.
Robert Trent Jones Senior, golf’s most prolific architect and a legend in the sport, was hired to design the layout of the golf course. Working closely with Trent Jones Sr., Mr. Cabell Robinson oversaw the running of the project in Marbella. Finally in November 1994, with the strong support of the Founding Members and the best Clubhouse on the Costa del Sol, Mr. Naify’s dream came true and the beautiful 18-hole golf course was officially opened.
The original golf course design has undergone some changes since 1994. One of the reasons was the construction of the toll road between 1997 and 1999, which now runs between holes 1 and 2 and between holes 5 and 6. These changes were supervised by Cabell Robinson, to keep the essence of the Trent Jones Sr. design unaltered. In 2010 the demolition of the old building in the middle of the 18th fairway took place. The 18th fairway was extended, new tees were built and the hole was redesigned. Since 2010 the layout has not had any major alterations.
Since the passing of Mr. Naify in 2016, the Naify Family has continued to own and operate the Club and is providing an ever more enjoyable golf and dining experience for its members and the public.
