Hello everyone!
I hope you all have been keeping cool in this hot weather, but this is Andalucia, and we are lucky to have the beach and the swimming pools ready for us to use and enjoy.
The golf club has been very busy over the summer. Many of our members have gone back home to their respective countries, but visitors have arrived in large numbers and have chosen Marbella Golf Country Club as their ideal location to play golf. From the comments they are making to our staff, they are very impressed with the improvements to the course and the excellent service they receive from our staff. As I say all the time, “We have the best personnel on the coast, and I am privileged to have such a great team”.
At the beginning of this month, I hosted a zoom call along with Satu for all the members and I was extremely pleased with the outcome. We have sent a link via email to all members of the recording of the call for those who were unable to attend to view it.
We are preparing ourselves for a busy autumn and winter. Please remember all members can book their tee times six months in advance through the app. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask Satu or the caddy masters in the golf shop. The signing up for the Monday, Wednesday and Friday members’ competitions will open two weeks prior to each competition and for the larger events including prizes and lunch we will be sending you the complete information and opening the sign-up process via the app at least three weeks in advance as usual.
In the Captain’s and Ladies Corner articles you can see the relevant information as to the upcoming events this autumn. Please save the dates in your calendars for the two-day Club Championship and the Captain’s Day Tournament.
I will continue to grow the grass on the fairways. At the moment they are at 22mm and looking much better, but we must control the weed growth. The rough will remain the same length and the collars/aprons around the greens will be more pronounced throughout the coming months. I am concentrating on more definition of the fairways and rough and hoping my new treatment programme will continue to work. I have changed some chemicals and am using different and more effective products. Pepe Baez (Head Greenkeeper) and myself are putting this to good use, and it seems to be working without having to use more water on the course. It’s always a work in progress, but I love it!
Our membership continues to be very active. We have 190 members at the moment, but we will not be taking too many more, so if you have any friends that are interested in joining, please tell them that time is of the essence. I will be meeting soon with the members committee to discuss the M-W-F competitions for the winter, so that all members that wish, can participate.
I know many of you are not here, but enjoy the rest of the summer and hope to see you all soon at the club.
