Hello everyone, and welcome to the October edition of our club newsletter.
I am happy to announce that the first green is now open for play. The grass has bedded in well and has also given us more pin positions. The left-hand side has been softened and is less extreme than before. I hope you all enjoy the new surfaced green and make many more putts than before!
The practice putting green has held up reasonably well to the high temperatures and heavy traffic. New turf has been placed at the main walkway entrance to the green and is knitting in slowly, as this area is often in poor condition, simply due to the high volume of players. General maintenance including solid tine works once per month, and hand watering on a daily basis is continuing to be done.
Every high season we have problems with the tees being overused, simply because of the number of players each day and the small size of the tee boxes. Therefore, we have instigated a very intense maintenance programme just for the boxes, as many tee surfaces have suffered during the prolonged hot/dry summer. (However, with the recent cooler weather in the evening, the tees in general are improving). Hand watering and spot applications of wetting agents are being applied, but please be patient and supportive of me in improving the situation.
The new tee on hole 11 has been laid down with 419 turf and has been regularly top-dressed and fertilised over the last several weeks, and I’m pleased to report the turf is knitting in well. I am hoping to open this tee in the first week of November.
We are continuing to work hard to offer you all a golf course in top condition. To that aim, we have purchased two Toro Green Master Flex walk mowers to hand cut the greens, which should arrive early next year. This will enhance the condition of the greens and also with rolling them, it will increase the speed but most importantly make the putting surfaces smooth. Now you will not have any excuses not to make some birdie putts!
I am delighted to announce we have had several new members join the club in the last few months as well as previous members rejoining MGCC. The intense marketing campaign targeted in getting new members with our newly rebranded membership options led by our Director of Sales and Marketing, Satu Kääriäinen, has been a great success so far. We also have had many other prospective clients interested in our offers who have made arrangements to come and visit the golf club.
Also, remember to book your tables for the Christmas Lunch well in advance and take good note that our famous Sunday Lunch is served twice a month – on the first and third Sundays of each month during the autumn and winter season. For the upcoming Halloween weekend, our restaurant team led by Francesc Hormigo has created a fun themed menu for you to enjoy. (You can check for further information in the Restaurant news section for this month).
We have some great events coming up soon, starting this week with the Members Autumn Tournament. And don’t forget to sign up to the Ryder Cup competition held over two days at the beginning of November, which is always a blast with the Captain’s and President’s teams battling for the coveted trophy! Please also note in your calendars that we will be having the Solheim Cup Trophy at our club the week of the 13th February 2023 as the trophy is travelling between all golf clubs in Spain before the main event to be held at Finca Cortesin in September 2023. Stay tuned for more information on the activities that will be organised that week.
Looking forward to seeing you all at the golf club!
