Ladies and Gentlemen,
Can you believe it is almost the end of the year?
This year has been very busy for all of us here at the club. At the time of writing this article we have 169 members, with the aim of reaching 170 before the end of this month. But don’t worry, we will make sure there are enough spaces for you all on our competition days!
There has hardly been any rainfall this year, and you probably have all heard about the lack of water resources in the region and the effect on golf courses in the area. Please be patient with us as we have had to reduce a little bit the irrigation on and around the course.
An important aspect to also keep in mind with regards to our fairways is that they are Bermuda grass, and this type of grass does not grow in the wintertime. I realise the fairways are tight at the moment and this is the reason why.
On October 18th the Annual General Meeting of the members took place in our Legends Room. I would like to congratulate the five members who were elected to the committee, and it will be a pleasure to work this year with Steve Cullen (President), Roger Kemp (Captain), Jan Zadruzynski (Vice Captain), Sheelagh Maloney (Ladies Interclub Captain) and Brian St. John. You can access their photos on the members section on our website, if you don’t happen to already know them in person.
Our Thanksgiving Day Tournament on November 24th was a great success, and we had a very good turnout. Thank you to all who participated and those who came for lunch to experience our delicious, juicy turkeys with all the trimmings. You can check the winning teams in the relevant article in this newsletter.
Since early November our famous Sunday Lunch has been back and is proving to be a great success. It is now served every Sunday throughout the winter-spring season, and you can choose to have two or three courses of the mouthwatering starter, main course, and dessert options. Please remember to book your table, as the special menu is only available with advance booking.
Also, I am delighted to announce we are almost fully booked for our Christmas Lunch. Again, you will have a chance to sample our wonderful turkey if you wish, accompanied by Simon on the piano throughout the meal. I will be here hosting the day along with our Food and Beverage Manager Francesc.
In addition, I am planning to book another Fitting Day with TaylorMade Golf for February 2024, this time it will be with the new 2024 TaylorMade Clubs. Once I get the date confirmed, I will inform you all so that you can book your place for that day.
It is great to see how most of you are now used to booking your tee times and signing up to the competitions via the Clapphouse App and using the live scoring facility of Golf Directo on competition days. Please remember to allow notifications of the app on your phones, so that you receive our pop-up messages in case an event has to be cancelled due to poor weather or if, for example, only the second nine holes are open. On the app, we also post the pairings of a competition on the afternoon before the tournament so that you can all see who you will be playing with, as well as posting the results right after the tournament has finished.
