Hello everyone!
Well, it’s that time of the year to get ready for the beach, golf, and enjoy the outdoors.
It has been a very busy time at MGCC since our last newsletter. We have been hosting many events in the Legends Room and on our terrace, all of which have been very successful, and many have already been confirmed again for next year. This summer we have several functions booked, I guess the word has spread along the coast that Francesc and his team provide 5-star service and make all celebrations a very special occasion.
Please come along to the terrace of the El Olivo Restaurant and try the new dishes we have on the menu,
as well as our fabulous cocktails which you can sip on while enjoying the cool breeze coming off the sea and the beautiful views. Trust me, you will think you are in paradise! You can see more about our new dishes on the latest news of our web page.
As you all know, last week we hollow cored all greens and tee boxes. This is something we needed to do,
before it got too hot. I am very pleased with the work the maintenance team have performed and the
outcome. With the cooler temperatures in the morning, the greens have come along quite nicely, and it will not be too long before they are back to their normal speed!
The purpose of hollow coring is aeration; the ideal proportion of the surface of the greens should be 50% solid, 25% air and 25% water, but with the traffic of players, the weight of the machinery and the impact of the golf balls, this balance is broken, compacting the surface, and preventing the entry of water and air into the deeper layers. By undergoing this process, it allows the greens to get water and air in the roots and makes them smoother, softer and faster for the hot summer.
On May 10 th we had the pleasure of inviting 16 international golf tour operators from 11 different countries from all over the world to play our course as part of a Fam Trip organized by the Costa del Sol Tourism Board and IAGTO (International Association of Golf Tour Operators). All the participants enjoyed their day and were very complimentary about the condition of our course. The visit coincided with this year’s IAGTO European Convention (IEC) held in Málaga from the 13 th to the 15 th May. Satu attended this event where prescheduled appointments of 20 minutes had been arranged over two days.
Projections for 2025 are looking good and we are sure that all the conventions Satu attends will continue guaranteeing that Marbella Golf CC is one of the most popular golf courses amongst the visiting tourists.
As to golf events this summer, we have two charity golf tournaments coming up – the first one in aid of the Full-Circle Learning on July 20 th and the second edition of the Avance Positivo Charity Day on September 7 th .
Please check the Members Board and our website for more information and how to sign up. Hope to see
many of you participating.
Thank you and I wish all of you a lovely summer!
