Hello everyone, I hope you and your families had a great holiday season.
Now we are in 2025, I will brief you all on what is going on with the golf course. I have no major projects planned for this year, but I have implemented some new policies.
Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday we will be rolling the greens as usual with our machine, on Tuesday and Thursday we will be hand cutting them instead and we will only be using the machine to cut the greens on Saturday and Sunday. This procedure will eventually make the greens faster and smoother, so be careful!
We are still trying to grow more grass on the fairways but at this time of the year the grass struggles to grow. I am still creating definition around the greens so that we have a collar and then the rough. This creates a better visual effect and makes the green look a little bit bigger as well.
Since January we have introduced new competition tee markers for the members. I hope you all enjoy them as they do look good, even if I may say so myself.
I urge all of you to use the safes on the buggies. We put these in the buggies for your security, so please utilize them or use the safe in the clubhouse or members’ club storage rooms. If you have any questions on how to use the safes, please ask the marshals.
We have recently applied a non-slip chemical to all the buggy paths which has helped tremendously to make the paths safer, especially on rainy days. Nevertheless, please use caution and drive slowly when going down the hills on the course.
We have now reached 210 members, our maximum number, and have a waiting list of about 25 people wishing to be part of this great club and the atmosphere we have. Thank you all for your support in making Marbella Golf CC the place to be!
Regarding tournaments, we will have a busy spring season, so please mark your calendars for the upcoming competitions over the next few months, which include the Spring Scramble taking place on March 7th, and, of course, the 2025 Bob Naify Trophy on April 11th. As usual, you will receive by email the menus and the full information on the tournaments at least three weeks prior to each event. Signing up for the competitions is done through the Clapphouse app.
I am very happy to announce that Francesc Hormigo has been promoted to be our Director of Food and Beverage. Francesc has been a great asset to our golf club and continues to improve the menu and provide a five-star service to our members and guests. The El Olivo Restaurant is fast becoming the place to book your event on the coast, thanks to the professionalism and dedication of Francesc and his staff. If any of you would like to book a table or have a special occasion to celebrate, please do not hesitate to ask Francesc as he will put together a wonderful event that will not disappoint you.
There are also some classical music events coming up later this month and in March. You can find all the information in the “Tournaments” section of our website, and our social media channels.
Finally, I am thrilled to inform you that El Olivo Restaurant received a recognition as the Best Restaurant in 2024 at a golf club in Spain at the Golfamore Awards, based on over 150.000 reviews submitted by their clients. Congratulations to Francesc and his team!
Please do not forget to follow us on @marbellagolf. You might also want to watch some of my Monty’s Corner videos with tips on how to play some of our holes. We continue with the tradition of posting them twice a month on a Thursday.
I will hopefully be seeing many of you on Fridays in the clubhouse preparing to go and play 18 holes. Please take it easy on me as it will take a little while for me to get back into the swing of things.
See you all around the club.
Monty Bordelon
