Monty’s Corner – February 2026 News

Hello Everyone,

I do hope this newsletter finds you all well and keeping dry. The weather hasn’t been the kindest in the last two months, but now with sunny skies about to arrive we are all looking forward towards the spring.

Fortunately, the golf course has held up well considering the amount of rain we have had between December and February. My maintenance team has been working very hard removing fallen trees and dealing with a few erosion problems we have had on the course. We have also been applying some sand and fertilizer on the greens in between the rains, and this has helped tremendously. The sand in the bunkers has also been packed down, so hopefully you will find it easier now to get out of them!

In December we had our very popular Turkey Trot Scramble in which our member Tim Barry and his wife Julie, along with the President of the Lions Club of La Cala were here in attendance to accept the gifts our members had donated to needy families. The Lions Club were delighted with all the support for this very worthwhile cause. I personally would like to thank the Lions Club on behalf of Higueron Marbella Golf Resort for the time and effort they put in cooperating with our club and to our members for their contributions.

At the latest count we now have 217 members and 65 on the waiting list. Our three weekly competitions on Monday, Wednesday and Friday have been very well attended this year (when the weather permitted!).

The next club competition is our Spring Scramble on March 13th. Please mark your calendars as I am sure we will have sunshine and fast greens for this tournament which I will be competing in. At the end of this week you will receive the information and the registration will open.

Do stop by our golf shop and check out our new merchandise with the Higueron Marbella Golf Resort logo. I am sure you will like the design and how the logo looks on the clothing and accessories.

Also, members tee markers have arrived with the new logo and you will be able to see them on the course starting this week. They look fantastic!

In our El Olivo Restaurant we have recently changed our wine list. You need to try out the new house wines, Granbazán Albariño and Baigorri Crianza. We also now include a very special red wine, Colorado by Javier Sanz. The wine is made of Cenicienta grape, an unusual red grape variety, of unknown genetics, which Javier Sanz has selected for its originality and is only found today in his vineyards.

And don’t forget we continue with our special edition hamburger each month. In February, try out the Golden Farm BBQ Burger and in March we will serve the Iberian Chimichurri Burger – there is always something new every month.

In addition, for the last week of March, we are preparing a special sushi week at the club so please save the date and we will keep you posted of the details.

Remember, my door is always open, so pop in if you have any questions or would just like to say hello or have a chat.

See you soon!
