Festive greetings everyone, I hope this letter finds you all keeping well.
First of all, we finally received some rain in November, although we did not need it all at once! The golf course held up nicely and despite all the heavy showers the course is in good condition. Of course, we had many holes that had standing water on the greens after some of the heavy downpours but in a couple of days it was all back to normal, the sun came out and it was time to play some golf.
I am delighted to announce that our membership is now at a grand total of 207 members. I would like to thank the Members’ Committee for making all the new members feel welcome and for all the support the existing members continue to give me and MGCC.
This year’s Autumn Scramble was a great success with 48 golfers and 64 guests for lunch on our terrace, and we enjoyed a wonderful ambiance which lasted late into the evening. It’s also amazing, especially now in December, that we still have a minimum of 32 players for our M-W-F competitions. As for the Turkey Trot Open Tournament to be held shortly, we are looking forward to a good turnout. These tournaments and events are what make MGCC one of the best golf clubs on the coast!
On the course we are continuing to cut the fairways only once per week and I am keeping the speed of the greens around 9.8 daily. The rough will be the same height. The tees will have more grass on them because we have applied a chemical plan to expedite the growth of the grass especially after the busy high season we have had. An important aspect to also keep in mind with regards to our fairways is that they consist of Bermuda Grass, and this type of grass does not grow in the winter. I have mentioned this in my previous articles, so excuse me for saying it again, but it’s important you all know that Bermuda Grass goes dormant in cold weather. The grass is still green now, but it will change once we hit colder temperatures. It does not change the texture of the grass just the colour, so please don’t think we are not taking care of the golf course.
I am now really looking forward to hosting our Christmas Lunch at our El Olivo Restaurant on December 25th with Francesc Hormigo, our F&B Manager. We are already fully booked with 100 diners, so this will make for a great day.
Please come and have a look at our Christmas specials in the golf shop and purchase your gifts for the holiday season. As you can see in the pro shop article in this newsletter, an extra discount of 5% (until December 23rd)will be added to your normal member’s discount for any golf shop purchase. And again, if any of you have any questions about the app or booking tee times, please do not hesitate to ask the caddie masters or our Golf Shop Manager, Toñi. They will be more than glad to assist you.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families a Merry Christmas, and a very Happy New Year. It has been a wonderful 2024 and I´m looking forward to an even better 2025, and I promise I will be playing golf in 2025 with you all as well!
Happy Holidays!
Monty Bordelon,
General Manager
