Monty’s Corner – News on the Golf Course, April 2025

Hi Everyone!

Spring has arrived and we are experiencing warmer temperatures here on the coast, so it’s almost time to break out the suncream.

We had a lot of rain during March, but the course has benefitted from it and has bounced back nicely. I would like to give a big thank you to my maintenance team for getting the course back to normal after endless days of rain and for working tirelessly to repair the damage caused by the weather.

I have taken advantage of the downpours by growing the fairways a little longer and creating more definition on all the holes. I am also making the rough and fairways a little higher which is creating a better visual effect when standing on the tee box. I will keep this going throughout the summer months as well.

Pepe (Head greenkeeper) has started his spraying plan to eliminate all weeds and the clover patches that are beginning to bloom now the weather has become warmer. This time of the year is when the pollen is strong and all the bad grass starts to grow, so we need to stop this process before it gets out of hand. We are on top of this.

As you can see, I have changed the pin flags to red/white from blue/white. I thought a change would be nice as well as the new tee markers for the members’ tees. I hope you all enjoy and embrace the change and make more pars!

I would like to take this opportunity to remind you all again that we will close the golf course for greens’ maintenance from May 26th to June 1st, 2025, one week as we do every year. After the greens are hollow cored and top dressed it takes a few weeks for them to be back to 100%, so please be patient with me on this.

At the end of March Satu attended the Finnish Golf Fair, Golfmessut, in Helsinki, together with several other golf courses from our area as well as the Malaga Costa del Sol Tourism Board. Many new contacts were made, and we are already seeing more Finnish players at the club.

In our Golf Shop we now have the complete spring-summer collection available. We have introduced some fresh new brands, so please drop in to get your new outfit for the season.

At our El Olivo Restaurant we have recently changed the menu and there are some fabulous new dishes you have to try! Further details are available in the “latest news” section of our website.

Last Friday we celebrated the 2025 Bob Naify Trophy, one of the biggest members events of the year. Read more about the event in the “latest news” section of our website and see how the dancing went on until late with DJ Dave James. Congratulations to the winners and thank you to all the participants, we had a blast!

The next big event to look forward to is the President’s Cup held on May 2nd. You have all received the information on the event by email and you can start signing up now through the app. Coming up in summer is the 3rd Avance Positivo Charity Tournament on June 28th, so please check our website or members board for more information on how to sign up.

Finally, we number 213 members as of today and we have a waiting list of over 30 potential members. Satu and I are both pleased and excited and will continue to make sure we look after each and every one of you. I thank you all for your support and my staff and myself will strive to offer you  5 STAR SERVICE at one of the best golf clubs on the coast. I do have a wonderful team, and I am privileged to work with them on a daily basis.

Remember…my door is always open if any of you would like to pop in for a chat.

See you all around the club!
