Hello everyone! I hope you are all well and had a nice Easter. The temperatures are rising and it’s starting to feel like summer already.
The month of March and beginning of April have been extremely busy with 130 plus golfers playing daily. Weather in general has been very pleasant with only a few days of light showers. Even with warmer temperatures, although color has improved, our Bermuda grass remains somewhat dormant due to cool overnight conditions. During the last week of March, with hotter temperatures and winds, we were hand watering greens on a daily basis. Irrigation system use has been minimal, but we are going to have to use the system now that the better weather is here. We are in the process of applying wetting/penetrant agents and solid tining all greens to enhance water percolation and improve air movement. This process will make the greens a little softer but will maintain the speed.
I am delighted to announce that I am waiting for the arrival of two new Toro Flex 2100 walk behind greens mowers that were purchased in the USA. This will help the complexion and the speed of the greens tremendously.
The fairways will be a little longer this summer to make it easier to hit those fairway metal woods and hybrids. We are going to grow them up to 16mm and keep them this length. We are also going to make the rough just a little bit higher to show the definition between the fairways and the rough. I promise I won’t make it too tough!
Positive news to report is that the new fence for the wild boar has worked and we have not had any problems on the front side. Let’s hope I do not jinx myself and we continue to have no problems with this situation.
Please do not forget we are closed for course maintenance the week from May 29th until June 4th 2023. We will be aerating all greens, tee boxes, and the approaches to the greens. Also, we will be adding new sand to some of the bunkers … not that you all go in them!
We are continuing to increase our membership daily which proves we do have one of the best golf clubs on the coast. We are welcoming members who have previously left and have now come back, and we are getting many new members who have heard about the golf club and what we offer.
Francesc and I will be organising some fun events this summer and our first occasion is a Wine Tasting on Friday, May 12th. All members and their guests are welcome for all events.
Before summer we also have more golf tournaments coming up. Our St. George’s Day event is held this week, on April 21st and the President’s Cup tournament will be played on May 10th. You will receive the information on the President’s Cup shortly.
We are also very excited and sure you will be so too, the next time you visit the club, with all the new furniture that has been ordered and has already arrived to the clubhouse. More projects to enhance the building are planned to be completed during the course closure week, so watch this space!
My staff and I will continue to work hard every day to ensure MGCC is one of the best clubs here on the coast and we aim to offer each and every one of you great service and professionalism.
