Monty’s Corner – 2024 News from the Golf Course

Hello everyone!

Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families a very happy New Year and best wishes for 2024. January and February have been very busy here at the golf club. Usually, these two months are a little quieter, so this is a good sign for 2024.

Work wise, we have completed installing the fence on hole 15, so let’s hope this will keep the wild boar out of the golf course. We are watering the greens three days a week by hand, and this has made a tremendous difference in the speed and the overall condition of the greens. As I have said before, at this time of the year the grass does not grow because of the low temperatures and with the water drought it makes it even more difficult, but we have found a good system to keep our greens rolling well.

In January we changed to a new access control system with new control readers on the doors of the changing rooms and club storage rooms. Every member was sent their new personal code and there is also the option of purchasing a token in the golf shop for three euros with which you can open the doors by simply holding the token to the centre of the reader. If you have any doubts about the code system, please ask in the golf shop.

This spring is going to be busy with several exciting members’ tournaments and events. Mark your calendars for the Spring Scramble on March 15th and the President’s Cup on April 19th. Also, a special reminder for our BOB NAIFY TOURNAMENT, when we will celebrate the 30 YEAR ANNIVERSARY of Marbella Golf Country Club. This will be a unique event and will take place on Friday, April 5th. Please come and enjoy some great food, competition, and entertainment. We will be sending you the full information on all these events shortly.

The second fitting day with TaylorMade Golf will be held on February 29th, this time with the new 2024 TaylorMade Clubs. The information was sent out a few weeks’ ago, and, unfortunately, the spaces were limited and only the quickest members to sign up secured their places, and we are already fully booked. However, I am planning to organise another fitting day later this year for those members who didn’t manage to book their spot at this event.

The beverage menu of our El Olivo Restaurant will be updated during this month, and we will be introducing some new wines to the list. Please also remember we have “daily specials” for lunch in addition to our regular restaurant menu. You can check the relevant article in this newsletter for more information.

Also, remember we will be closing the course for maintenance the week from May 27th to June 3rd. We will be hollow tining all greens and tee boxes and putting an inch of sand on them as well.

It is great to see you all back at the club, and thank you all for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Monty Bordelon

General Manager
