On September 15th, MGCC welcomed a ‘full house’ of 32 Ladies to our final Open, Texas Scramble Tournament.
Each team, of 4 players, had 2 over 30 handicap and 2 under 30. This meant that high and low handicap players had the chance to play in the same team. It’s a new format, aimed at encouraging new Lady Players to gain in confidence in playing competitive golf, without having too much pressure.
It really was a great day with many Ladies asking, ‘When can we do that again?’
The answer to that is the Management Team have already booked us in for next year, on October 5th, when we are aiming to fill the whole course, include a 3 course meal and drinks.
We are already looking towards sponsorship, so that we can give away some really top prizes. It will be an annual event, so book that date now!
Our top three teams this year, were:
First Place: Francine O’Neill, Sheelagh Fulcher, Christine Wills and Anneke Samways. With a net score of 61.3.
Second Place: Rosane Voskertchian, Frauke Schleisser, Christina Staunton and Netty Leavesley. With a net score of 61.6.
Third Place: Sheelagh Maloney, Maxine Ashman, Eliis Naro and Moira Jeanmart. Also with a net score of 61.6 (but higher team handicap).
Some of the ladies had NEVER played in a tournament and a very special mention should go to Maxine Ashman who got her FIRST EVER BIRDIE! Well done Max!
Last but not least a very big thank you to our Lady Pro at MGCC, Abbey Gittings, who showed us how to play the 11th hole, where we all took part in ‘Beat The Pro’. Only 3 ladies managed to beat her: Francine O’Neill, Eliis Naro and Sheelagh Fulcher.
At MGCC, we now move into our Autumn/Winter friendly Interclub fixtures, so look out for some great results (we hope) in our next Ladies Corner.
