“Memories, having fun and a golf tip!”
Marbella Golf Country Club has some fantastic, Lady Life Members: Miny Verboon, Sue McDonough, Beatrice Poggioli and Bernie McDonald and it’s fascinating to hear how things have changed, over the years. Bernie has shared a couple of memories with us:
“Going back almost 30 years to the early 90’s some of my earliest memories are that we had no buggies at all! There were a few caddies, but if you didn’t use one you had to push/pull a trolley around 18 holes. Totally exhausting. I still have my old trolley in our storeroom in Spain.
I also remember the clubhouse being used more intensively. This would have been in ‘95/96. You could have a lovely evening meal in the dining room and the large terrace was used on warm nights with lit candles on the tables – magical!”
Life Members and current lady players all express the importance of fun and friendship, as well as playing and winning and keeping that balance is what makes golf so special. The sign we attached in this article at a US golf club really sums it all up.
Even so, all of us lady golfers want to know how to improve our game and sometimes it can be the smallest adjustment that can make such a big difference. Just by taking care of how we address the ball according to which club we use, can make a big difference.
Don’t forget, on September 15th, Marbella Golf Club is hosting the last of our Ladies Open Days. Just to remind everyone, this event is all about getting new or beginner players out on the course with more experienced players, in a fun, Texas Scramble format. Each team will have at least 2 players with a 30+ handicap, to encourage this. It is FREE for MGCC Lady Members and only 54 euros for non-members. There are prizes for the top 3 teams and a beat the pro’ competition. You can enter as a team or individually. The details on how to sign up can be found on the poster you can see below.
We hope all Lady Golfers enjoy the last weeks of our fantastic, Costa del Sol summer and we look forward to seeing you all soon at Marbella Golf Country Club.
