Ladies Corner – “Autumn arrives”

As I write, rain is falling softly on all the golf courses along The Costa del Sol and what a welcome it is getting! We’ve had a very long, hot summer and course managers everywhere have been praying for the skies to open.

The rain coincided with our recent Friday members’ day, and it appeared that several ladies were very disappointed to be called off the course, as scores were going really well. Our last lady in the clubhouse was Chrissie Wills, who stood there dripping and laughing saying ‘but I had 21 points on the front 9!’ That’s sums up the dedication of our MGCC Lady Members!

In fact, our ladies have been enjoying a successful time. The recent Club Championship was held over 2 days and was played in medal format. Melanie Scholz, our lowest handicap lady, narrowly missed out on first place in the gross competition and Bernie McDonald, 87 years young, won the net competition. All our lady players are saying that Bernie has given us renewed hope: you are never too old to play golf and win!

Our monthly Ladies Birdie Juice competition continues to be well supported and one of our ‘regulars’ Kiki Bach, has just sent me her latest acquisition – a “Birdie Cap”, which she will be wearing on Friday, 25th October. Well done Kiki!

Lastly, after 3 years, I am delighted to be handing over The Ladies Coordinator role, to Cristina Fernández Romero. The Ladies Membership has grown massively, and we now have a really great group of ladies, who are regularly in the top 3 of our 3 x weekly members competitions. Good luck Cristina!
