We were blessed with fantastic weather for our annual Captains Day on Friday 18th October and 64 players enjoyed the course and the superb meal and entertainment.
Following coffee and bacon rolls, players were invited to see how Captain John Radcliffe would cope with the ´Captains Putt In´ – putting from 30 metres to the 18th pin, a variation from the usual Captains Drive-In. Needless to say, there was the obligatory sweepstake to see how close he could get the ball to the hole with €280 in the pot for the winner. Despite the friendly abuse from the golfers on the terrace John put his putt to 65cms ensuring that members Bruce Hurley and Maxine Hobson shared the winning pot.
Post-golf the members and their guests enjoyed a three-course meal, entertainment from the excellent Tony Capo and the prize giving. John would like to thank his invited guests, Ian Radford, Rod Spinks and his youngest son Harry for making up his four-ball and everyone had a wonderful day.

Further prizes went to the two Most Valuable Players in the Men’s Interclub Team, Steve Boyle and Bruce Hurley and the Most Valuable Player in the Ladies Interclub Team, Anita Cullen. Four players won the nearest the pin prizes and bouquets of flowers were presented to Sara Radcliffe and captain of the Ladies Team, Catherine Shiels.
Finbarr Carroll won the men’s Captains Day trophy with the best overall points score and Magda Van Oeveren won the Ladies Trophy.
