Well summer and the heat have certainly arrived and with that a lot of members have left on their travels to, mostly, cooler climates for a couple of months.
The renovated irrigation system is having a beneficial effect on the course with the fairways starting to get quite lush and tee boxes growing in nicely. It’s certainly not as hard and dry as it has been in the last couple of years.
The Summer Mixed Interclub League has started again with Marbella hosting the first event on June 28th. We came first with Miraflores close behind in 2nd place. The second event was at Miraflores on July 12th where Miraflores won and we didn’t do very well and came last so the current standings are Miraflores 7 pts, Marbella and El Paraiso tied with 5 pts and La Cala on 2 pts. There are two more events to play, firstly at El Paraiso on August 9th and then the final at La Cala on August 23rd.
The Club Championship is coming up on September 23rd and 25th so I hope lots of members will be in attendance to play and support the competition.
Soon the official notice of the AGM will be issued as it will be held on Wednesday October 16th so, please put that in your calendars as an important date to be in Marbella. It’s followed on Friday, October 18th with the Captain’s Day Tournament, which is sure to be a great event and not to be missed.
The AGM is your chance to have your say about how the committee run things and we’d love to hear your thoughts and opinions. We also need more members to participate on the committee, so volunteers and nominations are very welcome, in particular, we’re looking for a new Vice Captain as my term finishes at the AGM when the new Captain is elected. If anyone is interested, please contact Jan Zad privately.
I hope you all have an enjoyable summer and look forward to seeing you at Marbella soon.
