The second year of my Captaincy has gone by very quickly and it’s been a great honour to serve you all. It’s also been nice to welcome so many new members to Marbella Golf this year as I believe there’s about 200 members at present, so it’s a big increase from a year ago.
The Summer Mixed Interclub League underwent some major changes this year as Atalaya, Santa Maria and Chaparral all pulled out, for different reasons, but Miraflores joined enthusiastically. With all the new members at Marbella we managed to field a full team at all the 4 matches this year, but we couldn’t retain our title for another year. The newcomers, Miraflores, were the big winners this year. There are more changes next year in this competition, as Santa Maria has rejoined and Hacienda Heathlands (formerly Alcaidesa Heathlands) has also joined, so we’ll be back up to 6 teams again.
The Men’s Interclub has held only one match with Miraflores, since the summer break. We won the home date 3 ½ to 2 ½ but the return match at Miraflores was rained out after about 10 to 12 holes so we decided to call it an honourable draw as all the matches were very close or all square.
As I said at the beginning, more new members have joined the club and the weekly Monday/Wednesday/Friday competitions are well attended, so its very important to register early, if you wish to play, as we are filling up quite frequently at this time of year. You can book from 14 days in advance up to 12 noon the day before but leaving it that late might mean you’re disappointed as its always first come first served. Guests can’t be booked in until 12 noon 2 days in advance and only if there’s space at that time.
Members mostly seem to have adapted to the Clapphouse registration app and the Golfdirecto live scoring app but, if you need help, please talk to the Caddie Masters or make an appointment to see Satu.
Even though it’s been a very dry summer with hardly any rain the course is in much better condition than a year ago. The tee boxes and fairways, in particular, show the improvement of having an effective irrigation system now the installation of new pumps and cleaning of the old ones has been completed. Unfortunately, we’ve been suffering some wild boar damage again, but Monty says there’s measures in place to deal with them.
That concludes my term as Captain, so I wish you all the best and look forward to seeing you all on the golf course. I’m sure you’ll all give our incoming Captain your full support.
