As most of you know Les had to return to the UK to deal with some family issues, but nobody had expected him to be gone for so long. I was very disappointed, as I’m sure all of you were, that he decided to resign the Captaincy and from the committee due to his extended absence. I was, therefore, honoured to be asked to take over and will serve out the term until the AGM in October 2024. I would like to thank Les for his efforts as Captain and his support since.
The Summer Mixed Interclub League continued well with Marbella retaining the trophy for the 3rd year in a row. We came second behind the hosts at El Paraiso meaning we were 3pts ahead of both Santa Maria and Chaparral going into the final at La Cala where we also came second behind the hosts and therefore winning the league again. Congratulations and thank you to all the members who participated and there were quite a few of you over the 6 events! It has been a bit of a struggle to field a complete team at every event, so I have to thank and commend Tim Barry and Brian St. John for playing alone at La Cala and scoring 37 and 36 pts, a great achievement! Unfortunately, Atalaya’s team has decided to pull out of the league next year and there are active discussions occurring to find a replacement west of Marbella. Let’s hope we can defend our title again.
The membership is going from strength to strength with about 170 members now, several of whom have joined in the last few weeks. It’s also building a strong core of players who participate in the Monday, Wednesday and Friday competitions regularly and we’d love to see more of you joining in.
The Club Championship was held on September 25th and 27th that produced two excellent rounds from Conrad Mazen to win the Championship and two excellent rounds from John Collins to win the net trophy by 10 shots! Congratulation to both!
The Clapphouse and Golf Directo apps are being used by more and more members as they get acquainted with them and Clapphouse is now the only way to sign up for any competition at Marbella. The Zoom recording that Monty and Satu sent out a few weeks ago goes through a lot of detail you will find useful, and I highly recommend watching it. Golf Directo gives us live scoring during the round as long as at least 1 player in the group enters the scores. Once you try it, you’ll find out how easy it is to use. Its use also means the results are known much quicker and accordingly the presentation.
More and more members, who have been away for the summer, are now returning and I look forward to seeing even more of you very soon.
