With Roger Kemp, our Captain, on holidays I’m delighted to provide a short update for
this month’s Newsletter.
We have all benefited from the rain the Costa de Sol had in the spring and the golf course is in great condition, as we head into summer. The Monday, Wednesday and Friday members competitions continue to provide a great environment for both friendly and competitive golf. With the membership numbers continuing to grow at MGCC we look forward to welcoming everyone to these weekly competitions.
The Men’s Interclub games continued in May against El Chaparral Golf Club. The Marbella team had a great 4-2 win at home followed by a delicious lunch in the restaurant. However, the return game at El Chaparral didn’t quite go to plan and, unfortunately, we lost 4.5-1.5, therefore losing the tie overall and the coveted shield 6.5 – 5.5.
The Marbella singles Matchplay competition was concluded in May. It was a great tournament with some exciting ties. The final was contested by John Collins and Paul Winter and after finishing all square after 18 holes John finally won the competition on the 2nd extra hole. Congratulations to John, whose name will be added to the honors board and well done to Paul for playing some excellent golf on the way to the final!
