Well, we certainly had a hot July this year, but nothing has been hotter than the form of the Marbella GCC Mixed Interclub team!
On 15th July, the 3rd round of the Summer Mixed Interclub League was held at Santa Maria. We came second on the day behind the host club, thanks largely to a huge contribution from Petra Lauk & Roger Kemp coming in with an unbelievable better-ball Stableford score of 55 points. A lot of the time, golf can feel like a game for masochists, but when it all comes together, it can be an absolute joy. Petra & Roger had one of those rare great days and they are still glowing now.
Then, on 29th July, it was our turn to host the event and we had a wonderful day. The execution of the event was superb and our thanks go to the Management Team and the staff for their support in preparing the course, the buggy fleet, the scorecards, guidelines & rules for the day, the excellent meal and service provided at the lunch for 72 players.
On our home course, we considered ourselves to be the clear favourites and we lived up to our own expectations by finishing in 1st place. Julie Owen & Jan Zad and Anita & Steve Cullen were top-scorers with 44 points each.
That result meant that in the 4 rounds played, we have finished 1st three times and 2nd once and we have extended our lead at the top of the league table. Well done Team Marbella! With two more rounds – at EL Paraiso and La Cala – we have put ourselves in pole position to claim the league title again. I just hope I am not tempting fate by writing that!
