It has been a busy few months here at MGCC. We have had lots of Senior League games, our regular members competitions on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and the exciting start of the 2025 Knockout competitions.
Firstly, we have had a lot of rain and it was really good for everything and filled up the dry reservoirs, which is great for Andalucia and everyone who visits or lives here. After the rain our golf course dried out really fast and is looking amazing. In between the rainy days we still managed to play the Spring Scramble on 7th March. How lucky were we to stay dry and another great day was enjoyed by all. A big thank you to all the staff at MGCC for working so hard during those wet times, and especially to the Pro shop staff for helping us move our competitions around.

Some of the Men’s Senior League games had to be rearranged due to the rain but we played La Cala twice. The first time, we played away, and they won 5.5 – 3.5. Then, we played at home, and unfortunately, they won again by the same score which was not the plan! Thanks to everyone who played in these 2 matches, Team Captain Joe McKelvey, Stephen Gilks, Joe Horvath, Roger Williams, Bjorn Eldoy, Paul Judson, and Roger Kemp.
We also played Añoreta Golf Club in the Senior league. We lost the first game away 5.5 – 3.5 but then we won big at home, 7-2. It was a really close and tough game and thanks to Team Captain John Collins, Alan Richardson, Joe Horvath, Steve Cullen, John Bell, Bjorn Eldoy, Tomas Hjelte, and me for playing in these games.
Together with this article you can see the latest league table and as you can see, if we can find some form, we can finish in a respectable position in our first year in the Senior league. There are many more games coming up in the senior league and this is a great opportunity for members to get involved in this competition, look out for the signup sheet for our next big games coming up in April against Alhaurin Golf both home and away.
The 2025 Singles and Doubles Knockout competitions are now in full swing and there have been some really close games with one of the highlights when I beat Vice Captain Joe McKelvey on the 18th green in the singles, nae luck Joe! Check the members’ board to see who’s winning and follow the progress of the competition.
I am excited to share that we’ve arranged a new friendly Interclub match later this year with Hacienda Alcaidesa Links Golf Resort. It’s our first time playing against this club near Sotogrande, and it will be a fantastic opportunity to experience a new course.
And don’t forget, our next big social event at MGCC after the Bob Naify Trophy is the President’s Cup on 2nd May. Also, remember that the course will be closed for maintenance from 26th May to 1st June 2025. Mark your calendars.
See you all at the club.
