Captain’s Corner – MGCC Tournaments

Our Captain, Les McGlasson, has been in the UK for several weeks to attend to some important matters.  Consequently, I am acting as ‘guest writer’ of Captain’s Corner on this occasion and hopefully we will see Les back here before the end of April.

I would like to thank Roger Kemp for stepping up and doing an excellent job in organising the Monday-Wednesday-Friday competitions with Jan Zadruzynski also ably supporting.

On 24th February, the Captain’s Day was affected by a completely unexpected rainstorm. Play had to be abandoned half way through the round and we now have a challenge to find a suitable date to replay the tournament. Despite the inclement weather, everyone enjoyed the day with an excellent meal and superb entertainment from Ricky Lavazza.

On 17th March, St Patrick’s Day Texas Scramble was won with an incredible score of 16 under par gross! Well done to Paul Dunford, Jim Robertson, Bruce Hurley and Jason Stuart.

Then, on 31st March, we had the honour and pleasure of a visit from California of the Owners for the occasion of the Bob Naify Trophy day. There is no doubt that the disproportionate amount of time and effort – not to mention the very significant financial investments – they have spent on the club over the last 2 years is paying dividends. There have been continuous improvements in the quality of the facilities and services at the club. These are delivering the desired objectives of increasing membership and enhancing the experience at Marbella Golf Country Club for members and visitors alike.

Also, on behalf of all the members, I would like to say and big “thank you” to the Management team and all the staff for putting on a very fine day with outstanding food, beverage, and entertainment and to the Owners for their generosity in making this event free-of-charge for the participants. It was a very fitting day to honour the late Bob Naify. Last but not least, congratulations to Mike Limosana on winning the trophy with a fine score of 37 points in blustery and tricky conditions.

The Summer Mixed Interclub League fixtures and sign-up sheet are now posted on the Notice Board along with sign-up sheets for Men’s Interclub matches against La Cala (in April) and Cerrado del Aguila (in May).

Other dates for your diaries for the coming month is: Wed 10 May, Presidents Cup
