Last Friday 6th May, the Ben Steele group, originally from New Zealand, played on our course and delighted us with this improvised performance of the Haka dance.
The Haka is a traditional ancestral war cry, dance, or challenge from the Māori people of New Zealand. Warriors before a battle in order to intimidate the opposition originally performed Haka; but Haka are also performed for welcoming distinguished guests.
The New Zealand sports teams’ practice of performing a Haka before their international matches has made the Haka more widely known around the world.
