The Members Ryder Cup 2022 Tournament was held on Monday 7th and Wednesday 9th November with President’s Team taking on the Captain’s Team.
After the four-ball-better-ball round on Monday, the Captain’s team had taken a 4-2 lead. So, with 12 points available in Wednesday’s singles draw, the match was nicely balanced.
The Captain’s team made a fast start on Wednesday and won the first two singles matches to extend their lead to 6-2 meaning the pressure was now very much on the President’s team. Knowing that his team only needed another 3.5 points from the remaining 10 matches, the Captain had adopted a confident pose and started writing his acceptance speech for the Trophy presentation.
Meanwhile, the President went to the bar for another drink but, as the afternoon progressed, his mood started to lighten. One by one, his team-mates returned to the clubhouse to report a victory. Indeed, from those remaining 10 matches the President’s team claimed no less than 9 wins and 1 tie, concluding a remarkable comeback to win the Ryder Cup by a final score of 11.5 – 6.5.
As all the players enjoyed their meal and drinks on the terrace, the Captain graciously presented the magnificent trophy to the President, congratulated both teams for a match played in good spirit and thanked the club’s Management & Staff for all their support on the day.
