2. Minutes of Previous Meeting
The minutes of the previous meeting were unanimously approved.
3. Course/Green Committee Update
MM reported that work has continued on the major cleaning up of bad grass areas on fairways. Holes 12 & 13 have been completed and work is now underway on Holes 8, 10 and 17.
Also some re-turfing will be carried out on the roped-off areas on Holes 5 & 13.
As reported in the previous Committee Meeting, there is now a schedule of projects, drawn up in conjunction with the Green Committee, which will be carried out in the coming months:
Hole 10
Raising and leveling the left side of the rough/fairway near the cart path.
Hole 1
Leveling the left side of the rough/fairway running alongside the driving range.
The extension of the green into the hillside at the rear has been dropped, at least for the time being. The improvements to the green surround have significantly reduced the problems of run-off that were being experienced before those modifications were made.
Hole 11
Completely re-turf the green on Hole 11. There is a serious invasion of paspalum grass that has badly affected the quality of the putting surface. A temporary green will be made to the right of the cart path for the duration of this project – expected to be approximately 4 weeks.
Practice Putting Green
This green (in front of the clubhouse) will also be closed for approximately 4 weeks for a complete renovation/re-turfing. A small temporary practice green will be created at the front corner of the clubhouse. (Pro-shop end)
Other summer projects:
Ladies tees: New tee box on Hole 10, repositioning on Holes 3 & 16.
Hole 10: Red paint left side cart path /curb to mark the hazard line.
Hole 15: Yellow paint the cart path on the left side of the lake to mark the hazard line.
Hole 2: Red paint the right side cart path from corner to corner.
Hole 6: Red paint left side of cart path to mark the hazard line.
Cart paths repairs on all corners with wear, at the turning circles near the 4th green and 5th tee.
Toilet facility at the cortijo.
New, larger white OB posts on holes 5, 8, 14 & 15.
New flagsticks and flags.
Decoration around the olive tree at the 3rd tee.
Safety walkways from the high (driving range) side of the practice putting green and going down to the cart garage.
4. Captain’s Report
SP reported that Member Jack Smith has offered to produce new Honors Boards at ‘cost of materials.’ The Committee welcomed this very kind offer and Sp will coordinate with Mr. Smith to set this in motion. Some new boards will be made for honors that are not currently displayed, such as Club Champion, Match Play Knock-out Champion and others to be decided.
The new boards will be placed in the corridor between the storage room and the Men’s Locker room.
5. Committee Members for 2016
JM confirmed that he has committed to remain MGCC President until AGM 2016. It was noted that the MGCC constitution will need to be amended so that, in future, the Presidency is not restricted to Life Members only. This reflects the current reality that the candidacy pool is now very small indeed. It is proposed that Annual Members be eligible provided that they have been a member for a minimum of 5 years and have served on the Committee for a minimum of 2 years.
JM also noted from the previous Committee Meeting that current Committee members are committed to serving another year. However, due process should be followed and notice posted on the Boards listing Committee nominees with a Proposer and Seconder.
6. Other Business
It was agreed that participation in the Members’ roll-up competitions on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays be conditional upon the payment of the entry fee of 5 Euros (3 Euros for the competition and 2 Euros for the “2’s”). Members not wishing to join are, of course, free to arrange their own games at tee times outside the times of these ‘roll-ups.
7. Date of Next Meeting
The date for the next Committee Meeting was set for 3.00pm on 3rd August 2015.
