During the winter months in the United Kingdom, many professional players find themselves without the opportunity of competitive practice at home due to the inclement weather.
For this very reason, Dale Whitnell decided to base himself in southern Spain last year in order to play scheduled events on The Gecko Pro Tour, whose offices are based at Marbella Golf Country Club. The Gecko Pro Tour, which attracts a large number of high calibre professional players from across Europe, enabled Dale to work on his game in preparation for the new season under the most ideal conditions.
Ex Walker Cup player Dale Whitnell turned professional in 2009 and made his debut appearance at the Open Championship this year following his stunning performance in the Local Final Qualifying at Hillside, where he fired 9 under par to win the event. At the Open Championship, held at Royal Lytham & St. Annes , Dale made the cut with ease and ended the tournament with rounds of 71-69-72-76 (+8) to finish in a highly credibleT60 place (same position as Rory McIlroy).
Dale Whitnell clearly identifies his winter training in southern Spain that enabled him to participate in multiple tournaments on The Gecko Pro Tour, as the main reason for the excellent results he has enjoyed this season. Not surprisingly, Dale intends to repeat this winning formula by returning to play on The Gecko Pro Tour later this year.
As his major sponsor, The Gecko Pro Tour is actively involved in providing Dale with the support he needs to take his game to the next level. The premier event for the Gecko Pro Tour this season is the first 3 day event of the season, sanctioned by the Spanish Golf Federation, and is being held at Marbella Golf Country Club, on September 17th, 18th and 19th. The event is open to spectators at no charge so please come and support our local Pro Tour.
