The annual President’s Select team versus the Captain’s Select team took place at Marbella Golf Country Club on Monday 12th and Wednesday 14th November.
The event, based on the Ryder Cup format, featured a four ball better ball on Monday. It is fair to say that Ray Norris’ Presidents Team had by far the better of the early results and at one time held a lead of 10.5 points to 1.5 points. John Radcliffe’s Captains team did well to win the last 3 matches though to bring the score back to 10.5 to 4.5 at the end of the first day’s play – a sizeable deficit but the score could have been much worse without the crucial last three points.
On Wednesday morning the 30 singles’ matches went out onto the course and it was clear right from the outset that the Captain’s Team felt that they needed to up their game. Incredibly the Captain’s team won 21.5 points from the 30 points available to clinch a remarkable turnaround and win the event by 26 points to 19.
