Huge increase of Asian Golfers in the Costa del Sol

Golfing abroad doesn’t get much better than golf in the Costa del Sol, Spain – also known as the Costa Del Golf. With over 70 golf courses, Costa Del Sol is the most prominent golf travel destination in the whole of Europe.

With luscious fairways, incredible weather and breath-taking views, golfers are able to play all year round. Bearing this in mind, it is understandable why Andalucía has attracted a record number of golf tourists from Asia. The Southern coast of Spain will see a 37% rise of Asian golfers this year with a large majority of them coming from China and 27% of them coming from Japan.

Costa Del Sol has been the most popular destination in Spain for holidaymakers and holiday-home buyers for quite some years and its golf industry is now booming. Their wide range of fantastic golf courses have been designed by some of the world’s best golf course architects. One of the world’s leading designers of golf courses, Robert Trent Jones, left his footprint in the Costa Del Sol by designing some of the top courses: Mijas Golf Club, Marbella Golf Country Club and Valderrama. This is probably where the phrase “The sun never sets on a Robert Trent Jones golf course” originated from.

The Costa Del Golf attracts thousands of tourists every year, from popular golfing countries such as England, America and Germany. As one of the most popular tourist attractions in the South of Spain, the government spend thousands of euros each year to try and tap into emerging golf markets. Just last year, Luciano Alonso the Minister of Tourism spent €63,000 on improving the Costa Del Sol’s golfing appeal to the German market.

One of the biggest reasons for an increase in popularity in the Costa del Sol, is the booming of Costa Del Sol golf properties. Golf is an increasingly popular sport in Britain, and with the Costa Del Sol emerging as a great holiday destination for the Brits, the golf property market has also boomed. It has become a widespread trend in the U.K to purchase a golf holiday home in this area of Spain. Frank Rabbel from Bromley Estates claims that around 40% of real estate sales are from British people – a clearly staggering number that shows just how popular golf is in the Costa Del Sol!

So next time you’re planning a golf trip in Europe, check out the Costa Del Sol in Spain and play at some of the world’s most incredible courses and enjoy the spectacles of Southern Spain.
